S8E10 Jason

Season 8 Episode 9

Jason

Age: 23
Location: Palm Beach Country, Florida
Addiction: Heroin, Xanax

What’s Memorable: He was a difficult child with ADHD that couldn’t handle it when his mom had twins and he felt left out. His screaming at his elderly grandmother “WE NEED TO GO RIGHT NOW” so that he can go get sticks.  He behaves like a spoiled, petulant child but seems capable of so much more.

Official synopsis: When Jason’s mother and stepfather had twins, Jason felt abandoned. He dropped out of school and turned to drugs. Now he lives with his grandmother in a retirement community and takes up to 30 mgs. of Xanax and shoots heroin up to five times a day. After an overdose, Jason had multiple hospitalizations and four grand mal seizures. Worn out from the drama, his family is frustrated with their inability to get Jason to stop using drugs and into treatment.

Original Air Date: August 2011
Interventionist: John Southworth

he has one of those faces that are familar. this episode sticks in my head, i feel for this kid. i know for this life should have never happened to him. i think he will pull through it .

    1. Kelly

He looks like a young Scott Baio

  2. kelle

i cant stop thinking about this poor guy. im wondering if hes ok, i would like to know his last name to look him up and see how he is

    1. Aaron

He has turned his life around. A childhood friend of mine! Jason is working full time, and is an inspiration to many.

  3. kelle

i know and love someone who experienced things like him it just makes me really sad. i feel for him. I myself can relate to him. i really feel bad for jason i hope he got better because i think that he deserves it

  4. Aaron

One of the cutest guys on any episode.

    1. Michelle

I know, right? He looked so damn gorgeous in the show. Such a babe. He’s lost his looks since then, but ahh well. It happens.

He was one of the only hot guys that have been on Intervention, except for Ryan (the guy who shot up Oxycontin) I thought he was cute too.

      1. Kara Bishop

Ryan is cute but Jason is gorgeous! Just my opinion.

  5. Clare

Jason’s mother, oh dear. What a piece of work she is! Calling him a pain in the ass and saying she favored the twins because they were easier to deal with? No wonder Jason became an addict. I felt bad for him. He seemed like a really nice person, and I hope he found happiness.

  6. mikey

He looks really happy and healthy now. Keep up the good work, Jason!

    1. Chance and Destiny

Wow, the link still works. He’s married with 2 kids and so much healthier looking. So happy for him and his family.

  7. Amy

I use this episode in my exploratory health class when I teach about drugs and alcohol. I was so happy to see that Jason has had success in his life since this aired. Watching this episode is hard for me, it reminds me of my brother (who is in prison for drug use) and I’s childhood and the pain of wanting a parent to love us.

  8. Melanie P.

    Hope you are well Jason!

As a Mom with a 6 yr old who has very severe ADHD I look at this episode and the episode with Vinny and wonder what can I do as a mom now to make sure my child never goes down this path. He was diagnosed with high functioning autism which in his case is the term for Aspergers and severe ADHD. He was diagnosed two and a half with the autism, and we started suspecting the severe nature of the ADHD at 3 years old. My son has OT, speech, aides and is in a school within our district that is working with him at a young age to see how and where he learns best. He is VERY smart, as I suspect Jason and Vinnie ar too, but I’m worried it will take a back seat because of a focus on him being “socially acceptable”. I just want him to be happy and healthy. That’s it, happy and healthy. Any suggestions from kids or parents who are farther down the road in a similar situation?

It’s eye opening, my husband and I both realized our own undiagnosed ADHD and social anxieties and I’m getting help. But the difference is when we grew up there wasn’t as much pressure to perform… standardized tests, social activities, mommy social engineering and just no freedom because they can’t roam the way we did. I lived under a lot of pressure for other reasons and when I got to college I definitely blew off steam with alcohol and am lucky I could stop. But these are different times and I want to do anything now to keep my son feeling his best. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments!

  10. Janelle

I’ll always remember this one as the kid who was intervened on by Walter Matthau 😀

    1. Kara Bishop

I ❤️ Walter Matthau! Some younger fans might not even know who he is! After this episode, I researched this interventionist, John Southworth, because I loved him, and was very sad that he had passed away in 2017. 🙏🏼

  11. Jennifer

This is one of only a handful of episodes where I really didn’t care what happened to the person. The way he treated everyone, especially his grandma just really turned my stomach. He was a jealous, spoiled little brat that showed his butt when he didn’t get what he wanted. And to top it off, he tried to be this “hard” addict and he looked so phony. After re-watching this episode, I actually dislike him more. I feel bad for Ryan though. Poor guy. He struggled and lost his fight.

    1. Kara Bishop

Jason didn’t have the love, attention , and acceptance that he so very much wanted from his mother… That might have had a lot to do with the way he acted, along with being an addict and being young.

  12. Sandy

Lord, 🙏🏻 Be With Jason. This Kid Has A Good, Sweet, Heart. That’s Why He Needs So Much Love & Caring. Please Help Him Heal.

  13. Xlio

Nice, looking at the fb link above he still seems to be doing great! He no longer looks like a wounded little boy that’s for sure.

  14. Dahlia

Really, REALLY disgusted with how everyone, especially Dizzy, treats this guy. He was a little kid who never had a good mother and turned to drugs cause that was the thing he thought would save him. Not that he doesn’t hold some responsibility for his actions, but for goodness sake give the guy a freaking break! Smh

    1. Gigi

I don’t see where Dizzy has been unfair or unkind at all and that is generally not the spirit of this site.

      1. Kara Bishop

I’m pretty sure that I read a comment from Dizzy on another intervention directory that the “what’s memorable” and “official synopsis” are sometimes written by guest writers.

    2. Kitty Katt

I think there’s only one comment where a person gave their opinion that doesn’t seem to satisfy you.
As for Dizzy, I don’t see where she said anything cruel that would require such a comment from you.

      1. Dahlia

This attitude does not help either. We are ALL here to be positive is all I am saying. Keep that in mind, please.

      2. Kara Bishop

I don’t see any attitude from kitty katt. I see more attitude from your two comments.

    3. Maz

Why you having a pop at Dizzy? What’s up have a crap life so taking it out on others? Grow up. Either respect other opinions or stay off the computer…….

  15. Pat Smith

Jason update. Now 33 Jason is a bright articulate husband and father of 2, sorry ladies. He remains clean and a productive member of society helping other addicts get clean. Great success story worthy of it’s own episode.

  16. Nivey

So nice to see the fb link above! He looks great! Healthy and happy! His mother is a piece of work! Her first words of her interview were what a horrible baby he was! Yikes! No wonder he felt unloved, poor guy. But again, I’m happy to see he overcame his afflictions, and I think one of the fb pics is of him with his mother. So, hopefully, they resolved all their issues! I pray he continues to thrive!

    1. Kara Bishop

I’m really proud of Jason! I really liked his grandma and was happy to see that she’s still alive! I saw a Thanksgiving picture on his mom’s Facebook page. The entire family looks happy and healthy! I wish them all well! I liked it when Jason’s grandma said “ my Bernie…”

  17. JeffVonDoucheron hate account.

I thought his transformation after the intervention was one of the best ever, wow.

  18. JeffVonDoucheron hate account.

How awesome he now has a beautiful family and works in addiction treatment helping others. Such a great update

  19. Luke

To me, this kid came across as a selfish, entitled punk. I didn’t feel anything for him.

    1. Kara Bishop

Addiction affects behavior, not to mention growing up longing for the attention, love, and acceptance of his mother.

  20. Ingrid

Just watched this episode 2023 felt bad for this young fella like WTF his mom calling him a pain in the ass holy that’s her child making him tale a back seat because she had twins ofcourse he is going to be angry I just hope he is clean and sober now and cudos to grandma for taking him in …… he clearly loves his grandma
