Send Dizzy a Tip!

Buy Me a Coffee

Season 12, Episode 6

Terry

Age: 32
Location: Brantford, Ontario, Canada
Addiction: Fentanyl (injected)
What’s memorable: His funny and oddly charming little laughs, the room he keeps for his daughter, his swollen hands and track marks, his seemingly proud identity as an addict, the sexual abuse he suffered as a child and his parents doing nothing about it (that’s a very common experience among addicts profiled on this show, I’ve noticed). “I feel like I’m a shell, nothing inside but emptiness.” – Terry.

Official Synopsis:
Terry, 32, is a chef who dreamed of opening and managing his own restaurant, but his career, marriage and parental rights to his nine-year-old daughter have hit a dead end as a result of his $500 a day cocaine and fentanyl addiction.

Original Air Date: September 2012
Interventionist: Jeff

Terry has my vote for one of the most likeable individuals profiled. I felt a profound sympathy for him. What an intelligent, charismatic person. His laugh and his misguided pride about being an opiates superhero. Also his mad scientist drug preparations. Very memorable and oh so tragic.

I just saw Terry’s episode. I sincerely hope he is doing well. I have a similar story; I was molested at 7 by my grandfather, and when I told my Mom (when I was 12), she just said that he’s an old man and can’t hurt you now. I wanted justice, didn’t get it, and turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. I’m currently not using and in recovery. I’ve used all the drugs and recovery is possible. Also, would love to eat a meal at his place of employment.

Dizzy is a little misguided. Terry’s parents did not know about the sexual abuse until many years after it happened. Please keep in mind, that this episode was condensed from hundreds of hours of filming. The film crew did a great job in capturing the key points, but there is still so much to this story that was not aired. Terry is doing well, and is working as a chef.
    Sincerely his Aunt.

Thanks for commenting Lisa. So glad to hear he’s doing well. My apologies if I misunderstood the abuse situation.

On several websites they say ,as off several weeks ago that he never recovered . Worse he knew he was being filmed for Intervention and a bunch of this episode was totally staged by Terry . I believe the abuse part but he seemed to manipulate the show very badly . The people writing the updates were furious over what he did and said the bedroom was not for the daughter but belonged to somebody else . I got the very firm feeling a very close friend , somebody from treatment or from A&E got upset over the lying and announced what he did . It is also said he is still using .
I want to believe that he is well but denial + manipulation equals all is well . I think A&E got scammed on this one and a few others .

Can you update any more about his condition? His story stuck with me all these years, as it was so close to my own. Would love to know how he’s doing. Hopefully, working at an awesome restaurant and able to see his daughter. Thanks.

Hearing that this episode was staged was disappointing. I don’t know how much of that I believed. He might have known he was being filmed but is that really so awful? Perhaps it was just a desperate grasp at help. Who knows… All I know is I liked this guy. It was clear he had a true talent, an art, to share with the world and the fact that he’s stuck in the junkie lifestyle is a frickin huge waste. Not to mention the stupid huge doses he would slam were terrifying even to me, and I spent a lot of time doing pretty similar stuff back in the day.

So, good luck, Terry. You really do deserve better, bro. Get clean and you can go be a chef in a 5-star and live a completely different life. So many people don’t have a career they can actually return to after drugs. Do it, man.

  4. Britley

Wish I knew if this guy is clean. His story is so like mine. U know one post earlier said he is doing well but does that mean clean? I really hope so.

  5. Adam

Wait…So let me get this straight: He manipulated and lied and scammed people?! He’s an addict, and a pretty hardcore one at that. Happy birthday, Marcy!

Even if he did know it was Intervention, it’s either a cry for help, or an addict who having a little fun with himself despite his addiction and finding SOMETHING comforting in choosing to share his story. Or maybe he wanted to be on TV.

Admitting he deals drugs in the amount he deals was pretty brazen, and admitting the abuse was heartbreaking, so my guess is it’s a cry for help.

That said, anyone on the show crew or production staff being upset about an addict in full blown addiction lying to them would be complete and total hypocrisy.

Any further updates on this episode? Comments Kinda left a cliffhanger

  7. Henry Mailler

I personally knew Terry and this show was completely staged. He was playing a characterized version of himself. He never actually quit doing and selling drugs. Him and his partner Victoria are both addicts and enable eachother. Terry lost his job as a chef. Terry has very little contact with his daughter and the bedroom he had for her in the episode was fake. That was actually his brothers bedroom but they made it up to look like a girls room for the show. Terry’s father also recently died from all the stress this boy put on the family. It is all very sad. I often will check the internet for his obituary.

    1. blarinna

Hi Henry, did you ever find that obit? I was hoping to check for Terry online and don’t know his last name.

      1. Xavi

Hes speaking half truths… Terry was still alive based on his Facebook profile activity in 2018. Terry’s father, Dave, did pass away at the age of 65 on May 26, 2017. In his obituary it says he is predeceased by a list of family members, none of which are Terry. He may also be confusing Victoria as Terry’s spouse, but his sister’s name is Victoria.

      2. A.

It’s a figure of speech… Terry is not dead.

  8. Markus

One thing that didn’t quite seem to make sense was the scope of Terry’s drug dealing business. In one clip he is seen making a modest buy over the phone from the restaurant he worked at, and in the next, he is delivering 100 Oxycontin80mg tablets to a couple of kids in a beat up Toyota Corolla. That’s 8000 bucks in one drop. As a former addict (clean since 2006) I can tell you that I met a few dealers that sold Oxycontin in that kind of quantity. They weren’t ‘runners’ and they weren’t ever users. Something about that just didn’t add up to me. I also just watched his follow up video on A&E.com, and he did not seem clean to me. He seemed very unfocused…not at all what an addict in recovery usually presents in a follow up. I know I could be completely wrong, and honestly- I hope I am. Just my two cents worth in observation.

  9. KnickKnack

It’s odd to me that there is a lack of updates in this case. It’s also odd to me that on Hulu, Terry’s episode is paired with Brittney, but there’s no update on her here either.

    1. Cm

Britney was released from prison in 22 November 2020 from a 2-5 year bid on assaulting a correction officer. Even in prison she never maintained any sobriety.

  10. Cat

I don’t know why but one time when I was rewatching the episode of Britney/Terry K, it had me cracking up for MINUTES straight when Terry says with like with a straight face “I consider myself to be a Narcotics Superhero”
Pretty significant moment for as that was the first time i’ve ever laughed in MONTHS since the last breakup I had recently the time.

  11. T

My GOD, BRANTFORD was profiled on here? The drug scene is horrendous there, enough that when I was in uni there a certain Tim’s was known for drug deals. Fuck sakes… I wish that they could have done more on Brantford scene.. serious help is needed in that area even today. I wish Terry well. My mouth fell open when I saw a place I spent so much time in on the show ….

  12. Kelly

Even if Terry is playing up for the cameras, it really showcases his delusion, selfishness and willingness to misrepresent himself. We see addicts on this show try to manage the narrative around their addiction and lifestyle all the time.
