Episode 131: Darick

Season 9, Episode 2

darick-meth

Darick
Age:  34
Location: LaFollette, Tennessee
Addicted to: Meth, OxyContin
What’s Memorable: Darick’s story is so sad and he seems like a really cool, likable guy off the drugs. “I could care less about myself. I’m just a worthless redneck meth-cookin nobody” – Darick.

Official synopsis:  Once a football player with a bright future, Darick dropped out of school to get married when his girlfriend got pregnant. Darick loved being a father, but when his marriage ended, Darick learned his daughter was not his biological child, and he was denied all contact with her. Devastated, Darick turned to drugs. Having already lost one family member to addiction, Darick’s close-knit family is enabling his habit. They fear that if they don’t, they’ll bury Darick, too.

Episode 139: Michael

Season 9, Episode 12

michael

Michael

What’s Memorable: His mother Ursusla’s understandable coldness, his sons wanting to be a part of his life so bad that they supply him with weed, knowing that that’s the only reason they ever see him. The intervention is quite the tearjerker.

Official synopsis: A talkative, eccentric, antiques collector, Michael, 52, was a military brat who moved with his family all over Europe and the U.S. But what he really wanted was a stable, loving home. After a series of traumatic events, Michael began to do drugs, and now he’s a rambling, self-loathing addict. Even worse, his two sons have become his using buddies. Michael needs an intervention to save himself–and his children.

Episode 43: Ashley

Season 3, Episode 8

Ashley
Age: 20
Location: Seattle, Washington
Addiction: Meth

What’s Memorable: This is another cautionary tale, like Gabe and Tamela, about what happens when religion gets in the way of truly being able to see a person. Ashley’s father (just like Gabe’s and Tamela’s)is especially incapable of connecting with her on any meaningful level. His response to her addiction is “this is about your relationship to God” and “if you died right now you’d go to hell” kind of thing. You can see Ashley’s pain at hearing “God loves you” instead of “I love you.”

Official synopsis: Growing up, Ashley, 20, was always considered the wild child. While her younger sister was quick to follow the rules and be active in the church, Ashley tended to reject her parents’ strong Christian values. The more her parents tried to guide her, the more she pulled away. By her teenage years, Ashley became a chronic runaway and drug addict. Her family sees an intervention as her only hope. But will Ashley take their efforts as a sign of love or another chance to run away?

erin2

Now Erin’s marriage is in pieces and her daughter has been sent to live with relatives. Can an intervention tame this wild Texas girl?

Episode 31: Cristy

Season 2 Episode 18

cristy

Cristy
Age: 24
Location: Norco, California
Addiction: Meth, Alcohol
What’s Memorable: This might be the most famous episode of Intervention. I think it’s also my least favorite. It was hard for me to even watch it again in order to write this. Most of the time I have some measure of sympathy for the addicts on this show, but Cristy not so much. There’s just nothing about her that I can relate to or that evokes my sympathy. She’s unbelievably narcissistic and has zero self-awareness. Anyway, what’s memorable? The constant nudity. The eyebrows. The delusions. The intervention.

Official synopsis: Cristy was born into a tight-knit family and sought a career as a clothing designer before she became addicted to alcohol and crystal meth. Now she earns her money as a stripper, and her desperate family knows she needs an intervention.

Tiffany D.
Age: 25
