Buy Me a Coffee

Season 6 Episode 5

Jason

Age: 28
Location: Denver, Colorado
Addiction: Heroin and cocaine (speedballs)
What’s memorable:  Yeah, knowing that your bullying had something to do with the Columbine massacre has got to be pretty hard to deal with. The house he stays in with other junkies is disturbing. The relationship he has with his father, and the way he talks about it after treatment, is really interesting.

Official Synopsis: Jason grew up in a seemingly perfect upper-middle class family in Littleton, Col., but he struggled to gain his father’s approval. When Jason failed to make the baseball team his freshman year, Jason and his father were devastated. Jason began rollerblading and excelled, but he quit because his father disapproved of the sport. Jason turned to drugs and by his senior year he was an addict. A year later, the Columbine High School shooters named Jason one of the bullies they retaliated against. Overcome with guilt and grief for his dead classmates, Jason’s addiction escalated. Now Jason lives on the streets of Denver, and his family is in pieces.

Original Air Date: June 2009
Interventionist: Jeff

I felt so sorry for this guy ! The Columbine hit list was a myth and this poor guy believed the lie . Eric and Dylan killed strangers and not bullies . This guy might not have been nice to them but they bullied others just as badly and were both very ill.
    My family survived Columbine .

    1. Xlio

FYI they did have a hit list of the bullies they sought retaliation against. You are right that they killed at random. But the hit lost was not fake.

  2. Nicole

How is Jason doing today? He seemed like a nice guy at heart and I can relate to his addiction bc I’ve had a heroin and coke (mostly h) addiction myself. I hope he’s still doing well.

  3. Tobie

I read the episode description and thought, I’m probably not going to like this person. But, I found this to be one of the most touching episodes I’ve ever seen, and at this point, I’ve seen about 85% of them. What a story! You could see his self-loathing throughout the episode. And the mom! She was in terrible shape, too. Whatever the circumstances, I wish him well, because he came across as a very lost, sad person, and he deserves a good life. Would love an update if anyone has one!

I thought this was a great one too. Classic Intervention episode— at its best. I really felt for Jason and am so glad he’s doing good now.

  4. Sad

I thought Jason’s mom needed more help than Jason did! I was more disturbed watching this woman eat Xanex like they were coming out of a pez dispenser. On top of drinking wine. What creeped me out was Jason’s mom acted like she was his girlfriend. Crying and whining because he wasn’t around, she would hug him all creepy like (burying her face in his neck) and sitting on his lap at the family dinner. No wonder that family had so many issues. Jesus.

    1. Andy

I agree. I think Jason’s mom was sweet but definetly just as sick as Jason and codependent. I really hope they’re both okay now. Does anyone have any updates?

    2. Stefan

The dad clearly did not want to discuss emotions, hence why the mom felt a need to self-medicate.

    3. KH

I know Im several years late but I get in these moods where I binge watch earlier episodes and I’m so glad someone else has the same thoughts I did about his mom sitting on his lap.

  5. Mandy

Any new information on Jason, would love to know that him and his mother are doing well!

  6. Jesse Rey Anderson

I’m friends with Jason and he’s doing really well actually. He was living in Florida driving a scuba diving vessel for toutists. He’s married and has a kid now and living in Colorado again. Yeah he’s had his shit together for a long time now.

  7. Xlio

Oh no, that is awful. DUI is bad enough but I wonder how he will deal with the guilt of killing and hurting innocent people in the process.

This episode isn’t available on prime which I find kind of odd.

  8. Andy

I don’t think that’s the same Jason. The Jason above was 28 when this episode was filmed in 2008. So he would be about 40 now. The article that you posted that was originally published in October 2018 states the subject’s age as 42. Also I don’t see a strong resemblance. I don’t think it’s him.

    1. Xlio

That’s a relief! I was sleepy and didnt think to do the math.

  9. Renée

I’m selectively watching episodes going back to season 1 and I’m on this one now. I haven’t made any comments up until now but his dad saying “god bless him; if he dies he dies” blew me away. I’m glad to see the fb link here and know he’s doing ok. I can’t imagine going on national television and having my dad be ambivalent about whether or not I die.

  10. Brenda

That’s definitely not him. That link should be taken down. As a former addict in Colorado, Jason and I have mutual friends, this is not him.

    1. Jason Brown

Thank you,,, I cant believe that the picture thats there, someone says oh ya thats definitely him… I struggle everyday to stay clean and thank god I can read negative comments or stories that someone fabricates about me and it doesn’t get to me. Only makes me stronger… love life!

  11. Jason Brown

THAT DUI IS NOT ME, sorry wrong Jason Brown and theres a picture and someone even said ya thats him… Im here to set yall straight… love life..

    1. Jayla

So glad you are doing well Jason, thanks for the update. Sending love from Australia

  12. Suzvkb

I’m glad to hear he’s doin well today. he seemed like a truly good person just stuck in addiction.

  13. Churrita

In the drug house Jason was living in, did I see a guy shoot up in his penis? It was blurred out but a guys crotch was exposed and a needle close to it.

    1. Nivey

I recently saw this episode and I noticed that part too! Kind of hard not to! But I believe he was shooting it in his femoral vein! Which is located in the groin area. I can explicitly remember Dallas from Oregon doing the same and explaining why.

  14. Marissa F

Wow the mom was a nutcase. The constant crying, the denial, the co-dependency. She needed just as much help as Jason, if not more. I hope Jason set healthy boundaries.
