If there is such a thing as nailing an intervention, that was done here. Between Candy and Julie’s daughter, she would have to be absolutely souless not to go to recovery. Well done, and I hope she and her family is well.

  2. Janelle

Julie H seems to be doing quite well. She’s mended fences with her children Jillane and Devon, and with her father. I believe she’s still in Prescott AZ working in the elder-care field. I’d like to know if her mother recovered from her health issues.

  3. Dewey

Do you recall her last name? She seemed really sweet

  4. Rinna

Man Julie’s daughter was so beautiful and so strong, she was an inspiration

  5. Nickel

Any updates on Julie? Her daughter just broke my heart. I pray for her kids’ sake she was able to stay sober

  6. Jody (Leana Jo H.)

I know Julie. But I hadn’t seen her in over 5 years now…. I used to drink with her on rare occasions, but she used to talk crap about me too. But when she had a good day at the bar, she’d let me drink with her & her friends. She definitely had a “Jeckyll & Hyde” type personality with alcohol. She went to a couple of meetings, but I never saw her again since (it’s probably been about over 5 years now)… Hope she’s doing better, wherever she is now.

  7. Toreigh

I can’t get over what a dick her father is/was. So cold. He showed a little emotion at the end, and as candy said, he defrosted a little bit. Cause man he was cold as ice. Hope he continued to “defrost” and decided to be more of a fathe to her.

i found julie’s fb https://www.facebook.com/julie.hegedus.94 https://www.facebook.com/JYHegedus . her daughter’s too. the daughter looks great, looks like she got married and has at least one daughter. it’s hard to say how julie is doing. she looks good but that doesn’t necessarily mean a thing, the mom passed away. 🙁

  9. MelB

Based on Julie’s FB my guess is that she isn’t sober anymore…the profile pics are telling as well as all the random men commenting on them. There doesn’t appear to be any interaction between her and her daughter on FB which is telling as well. Very sad.

  10. Sudie

One thing I have noticed is that there are a few alcoholics on this program that have had gastric bypass surgery. My sister had gastric bypass and also has issues with alcohol (whether she admits it or not). I’m not saying don’t do gastric bypass…it’s just a trend I’m seeing. Not sure if it’s a way of coping with such a dramatic physical change, self-medication related to underlying trauma, or what. Thoughts?

    1. Stefan

It can happen because you’re no longer able to use food as a coping mechanism, so you may turn to alcohol and drugs. It’s why therapy is highly recommended during the weight loss process.

    2. Pang

I had gastric bypass and enjoyed how quickly I would get drunk- I would be flying on half a glass of wine- cheap and not inbibing as many alcohol calories! It was also convenient because since it was such a small amount, it would clear quickly too. So you could go out, have 1 glass of wine, have a blast, and then be ok to drive home all over a span of 2-3 hours! However over the past year, I’ve been drinking more wine and my tolerance has increased. I’m making a concerted effort that this doesn’t become a slippery slope though of replacing food with alcohol.

      1. Stefan

I’ve heard that’s quite common for people who get weight loss surgery sadly.

      2. Sudie

Very – my sister is a shining example

  11. Alice Schmid

In the brief blurb at the end where she is supposed to see all radiant and healthy and happy, Julie still seems drunk.

    1. Sudie

      “Pink Cloud”

  12. Clean Sox

Julie was arrested for DUI with a super high BAC over the July 4th weekend 2018.

    1. Alicia

Damn and I just watched her episode on HULU, but I felt like her sobriety would be short lived. It blew my mind that her daughter was basically my age, I’m glad she ended up with her own happy family. She deserves it with what her mom continues to put her through.

    2. Steph

Holy sh!t, she blew a .35. How was she even standing at that point?? How sad.

      1. Alice Schmid

She was driving irratically on an entrance ramp for a highway!!!!!

      2. Caitlin

I blew a .44 in the ER once and survived somehow. :/

  13. Michelle

Her dad is so awful. A sociopath even. My god that poor woman.

  14. Steph

Candy absolutely kills it in this episode. The daughter looks gorgeous and vibrant from her FB — I’m glad she (hopefully) was able to escape the generational pattern.

  15. Molly

god bless the man who said, “are you sure you want that?!” after she offered to let him do whatever she offered to let him do to her at the bar. seriously – gave me hope in humanity.

    1. Alice Schmid

      yes.

  16. Alice Schmid

Jilane, Julie’s daughter, is a lovely young woman. However, her obesity is an issue. At only 19 years old, she looks to be close to 300 pounds. She is following in her mother’s footsteps.

    1. Erica

What an odd thing to say. Are you her doctor? Why comment on a then-19 year old’s weight from a program that aired over a decade ago?

      1. Ami

I thought the same thing. Really rude and gross.

    2. Jean

I’m sure she is aware of her weight. As much as I respect others opinions, this just seems rude and uncalled for. Take a good look at yourself and figure out why you would make such a disgusting comment. Does it make you feel better about yourself? Wow, you need some help lady.
