I know addiction is a family disease and these enablers think that they’re saving the addict by continuing to provide for them, but god. Cody’s dad was absolutely infuriating. I understood Carmen’s rage and both Cody and Carlee’s family’s heartache. If he would let the bottom finally give way from under them, they might have a fighting chance to finally get clean. Instead I’m fully convinced that both will die from this because he refuses to make them face the consequences of their shitty choices.
ALSO I’ve watched almost every episode of this show and I can’t recall another time that the intervention never happened in person in some way shape or form. They were chasing these guys down for the last half hour or so and I really thought they’d nail them. Again so mad at Chuck and his denial about this situation. He was the key to the whole thing and he failed spectacularly.

  2. Cherry

i don’t think i’ve ever watched an intervention episode that made me so mad before…

  3. MJ

Not that I’m an expert, but I feel like they should have gone with the surprise intervention from the first place… To even attempt it afterwards was a waste and pointless. Sad situation. Does anyone have info about them today?

    1. Dawn

they couldn’t bc Cody’s dad told them the night before and they took off. I really feel they should have called the cops when they saw him driving like a maniac I front of the interventionist

  4. Jason

I’d love the hear you alls opinion because I think that this had to be the most botched intervention of all.

    A. They called off the traditional intervention due to Cody’s volatility, which I get but it was their best chance at success. They had security, Cody wouldn’t have done anything that no addict on any other previous episode hasn’t done (hell on the 3 brothers episode, they were literally brawling), he would’ve gotten mad, yelled and ran away. But AT least Carlee and Cody would’ve seen a unified family and that may have convinced their decision (as we’ve seen in the past.)

    B. Chuck. He should’ve been separated and talked to individually about the importance of his bottom line. Once they realized how bad his codependency was, they could’ve offered him help as well. I often feel it’s unfair to expect the enabler to just give up their addiction without help when we dont expect the addicts to do so. They were soo concerned about their safety, yet that last scene when Cody was in his car was about as unsafe as you can get.

    C. The lady interventionist (can’t remember her name) She took it too personal with Chuck (which he deserved) but it’s YOUR fault for allowing the codependent enabler to have that much power to sabotage the intervention. Yes, he was not supposed to contact Cody but he didn’t mention the intervention and had they done the original model, they still could’ve gone on with it.

With intervention, regardless of if the addiction gets sober, you can say that you’ve tried everything that you can. In this case, they didn’t even get the chance to see or speak to Carlee. They gave all the power and control to the addicts and relied on texts to get them to go to treatment.

They let the fear of Cody stop them from potentially getting Carlee help, which pissed me off.

Agreed. This is definitely not the first aggressive person this show has dealt with, also when they said they would only continue with the intervention if they are calm, many addicts are not calm when they see it’s an intervention but they have always found a way to navigate that. unless there was more to it that we did not see the measures they took seem extreme.. really weird set up for this intervention for sure. Chuck definitely needs counselling it’s sad it was not offered to him. But the mother also didn’t hold her bottom line because Cody came to see her after the first failed intervention. They both need help but I feel more for Carlee like Darren said she’s been held hostage. What a wild episode. I am shocked and sad honestly.

    2. Laura

The female interventionist made things worse. Invitational model was an over reaction. And I can understand Carlee’s family’s anger to Chuck and the sister’s outburst but it’s the interventionist’s role to calm the upset not add to it. Yelling at him was not effective to persuade him. Chuck should have been cut from the intervention and it should have followed the Johnson surprise model. That way the sister would have at least been given a chance to at least try to save her sister. I would be very disappointed with this outcome if I were the sister.

  5. Dawn

I’ve been waiting for you to update and include this episode. This is definitely one of the saddest episodes bc the reality is they are both going to die. Cody gives me such bad vibes as far as the DV and I could see him killing her. The dad makes me so mad bc I feel they might have been able to save Carlee but he caused the impending doom and my heart breaks for their families

  6. Pang

I guess you don’t know until you try, but this was clearly not the best approach for an intervention. They have used the surprise approach in the past for crack and meth even when people may erupt.

    1. Eliza W

Agreed. Why couldn’t they meet with Carlee first and offer her treatment? Cody was clearly abusive – his domineering presence alone could have coerced Carlee into refusing treatment to stay with him. I just don’t understand why they didn’t meet with them one at a time, Carlee first.
Interventionist Amanda lost her cool and escalated all of the anger and tension. This family needed someone non-reactive and skilled at de-escalation. Amanda was not the one for the job.

  7. D.

I suspect the dad Chuck is using too.
I mean he lets his son “steal” his prescriptions and other things from his house.
