Shandon-Intervention

Season 21, Episode 7

Shandon

Age: 25
Location:  Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Addiction: Fentanyl

Official Synopsis:  Shandon’s early life was disrupted at three years old when her parents divorced and her mother moved out of the country. Growing up without a maternal figure, Shandon felt abandoned and became very introverted. In high school, Shandon was badly bullied and she turned to drugs. She began acting out and resisting authority, so her father sent her to live and reconnect with her mother. Shortly after arriving, her mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and died within a year. Sixteen-year-old Shandon returned to live with her father and hid her grief by abusing even harder drugs – heroin, opioids and eventually fentanyl. Now in her mid-twenties and saddled with a $200 a day intravenous habit, she prostitutes herself in order to feed her addiction. Her family is at its wits end and is desperately hoping an intervention will save her life

What’s Memorable:  Yet another scary shooting-up-in-the-bathroom-during-a-tense-family-dinner scene. And an even more harrowing withdrawal desperation scene. Man this girl is SICK, so close to dying. I hope she’s able to find her way back.

Date Aired: August 31, 2020 in US, aired as Intervention Canada Season 4 in September 2018.

Interventionist: Maureen Brine

Yah that withdrawal scene was terrifying to say the least.

    1. Alexandra

Horrifying. I was so anxious along with her! Just an awful situation.

  2. Rob

Every time I think that Intervention can’t shock me anymore, I see something like that 10 gallon barrel of sharps in a bedroom. That was a rough episode.

  3. Billy

The bullying that this girl endured broke my heart.

  4. Alice Schmid

Jesus, this girl is like a walking greek tragedy.

Her parents divorced when she was a baby, she and hersister live with their dad, while her mom moves to Arizona from Canada. Shandon is molested/raped at the age of 6 on the playground by an older kid. She is taken to the police to report and press charges, and that experience traumatized her even more. Her dad gets remarried, and she doesn’t get along with the step-mother; a new baby pushes her out to the furthest possible periphery of the family.

She is always the weird kid in school, ostracized, bullied. Her own sister participates in it. She is repeatedly humiliated. Never able to socialize. Goes to live with her mother at age 16, only to find her dying of lung cancer. Comes home to live with her dad, and enters her full blown addiction.

It is all horrible. I just want to fix it all for her….. her family has so much to account for…..

    1. Stefan

Like Megan, the poor girl never had a chance sadly

    2. Karlita

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Extremely traumatic to say the least.

    3. Alexandra

Devastating. So, so many people failed her.

  5. Alice Schmid

Is the dad wearing a terrible wig? Why?

    1. Stefan

LOL yah his hair was a huge distraction.

      1. Xlio

He must’ve been on a Motley Crue fan. Very Nikki Sixx.

    2. Stephanie

Looks like Shandon is alive and well. Although I don’t know how well she looks better. Here’s her FB page:

      1. Julie Dalton

thank you.. i watch her episode today.. so heartbreaking.. glad to see she’s alive and well..

      2. Ingrid

there was an article on shandon she did pass away in August 2022 in Edmonton infect so bad for her when she was sick throwing up and trying forget the needle in her arm as her dad stands there and asks her if she’s sick? And truthfully her dad and his sprayed down hair do omg when I first saw him I thought he was from a final net hair spray add from 1965 and the way her sister comments on her arm as soon as she did that shandons was gone u could see her eyes change and off to the bathroom poor soul rest Easy shandon and her Facebook hasn’t been active since 2021

    3. Kitty Katt

If you thought it looked bad then, take a look at his hair now:

      1. April

I think he looks great. For his age to have hair like that, kudos!

      2. Ingrid

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ya something about his hair but he just stood there when his child was going through such withdraws she was in pain so much pain he allowed a dealer to come into his apartment and sell drugs to shandon I did notice when he would bend down it a hair out of place he could do a dam hair spray commercial

      3. Kara Bishop

April, I agree… I think he is a drummer in a band so I think that’s his rock look. Plus I have a really hard time reading comments when people make fun of somebody’s hair or looks… it just seems hurtful!

  6. Sam

From her sister’s Facebook page commenting about the episode:

“Weirdly they missed and didn’t air a lot of stuff. They focused primarily on her prostitution, and my mom leaving, my dad ect… but missed all the screaming, slamming doors so hard they almost broke off the hinges.Or all her mental health issues… the fact she was taking drugs for illnesses she didn’t even have. How she’s bipolar. That everyone in our family abandoned her.Or the fact on my honeymoon I had to call Shandon multiple times a day trying to convince her to stay. So much. But other than that it was well done. Very hard to watch. I bawled like a baby. Shandon now is part of a medical program, and is doing so well. This show changed my families life.”

    1. Kitty Katt

I don’t agree with her sister.

If anything, she’s the one who brought attention to the fact that their father basically lied to them as children about their mother “abandoning” them when in fact she wanted to fight for custody but he’s the one who had the good job and money that led to why he was awarded custody and not the mom.

      1. Ingrid

I agree with u her sister was a jerk then she says while on her honeymoon she had to call uh where was dad also Shannon left treatment and continued to use so not a chance was that her sister commenting because even in the episode it stated the sister hadn’t seen shandon in quite sometime and the sad seemed weird

  7. Kelly L gray

Her sister was kind of snobby, and I believe always embarrassed by her little sister she should feel horrible about not sticking up for her and letting the bulling continue. Not many family members seemed to understand this girl.I hope she does get help she is worth saving and living a good life

    1. Yvonne

Yeah. Even as an adult her sister seemed selfish but at least the family admitted to partaking in bullying Shandon themselves. Still horrible how the sister acts as if Shandon should just drop the drugs at her house when she’s already aware of the heavy potential withdrawal Shandon goes through.

      1. Lynne dalton

I felt the same way how on earth can you be ashamed of your beautiful little sister who suffered rape at the age of 6 finally had a chance she always dreamed reconnecting with her mother than a fatal news she was dying from lung cancer her health her looks deteriorating right in front of her 😥 her sister should been there for her a shoulder to cry on and to stand up for her against the bullying…. my little sister was Bullied in school I confronted the bully she wasn’t bullied after that day this was the saddest intervention I ever watch I pray she finds healing and the willing to live God please wrap her in your son arms and surround her with angels

      2. Kitty Katt

I gave the sister a little slack because as an adult, she admits how guilty she feels about how she acted as a child/teenager.

I have an older sister (6 years apart). When I was a very young teenager and she was an older teenager, we couldn’t stand each other at one point. As adults, we are best friends and I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have her in my life.

  8. AK

It was hard for me to finish this one because I see myself in her. I got bullied the way she did, for 8 years, and it was just absolute hell. I developed an eating disorder and got addicted to food and pills and drank a lot.
I spent years in therapy to be able to live a life that is not surrounded by addiction and unhealthy coping mechanisms.
But I still think I am ugly and I often feel worthless. The kids who bullied me don’t even remember it. I went to one class reunion and they acted like we were good friends.

I wish people would realise that bullying truly destroys whole lives. You can get better and live a healthy life but it never just goes away.

I hope she is doing better now and she completed treatment. It was so sad to see everyone ignoring her. They were just looking away, hoping it’ll go away one day… “Please don’t overdose in my house” was a very f-ed up sentence from her sister..

    1. Stefan

I’ve noticed the same thing when I encounter former bullies, and it enrages me to no end.

    2. Tammy

I am sorry that you were bullied. Please know that you are worth more than how people treated you.

  9. Jeremy

Great episode. I can relate to her in many ways.

I sure get her character – very, very likable person, who, I believe, with the proper opportunities, would do very well – she’d thrive, and everyone around her would love her.

    We’re pulling for you, Shandon!!

  10. Julia

I cant believe i missed all these recent ones! Does anybody know where i can watch this?

    1. Xlio

You can purchase on amazon prime

    2. Sonya

      Im currently watching it on
      Discovery Plus!

  11. Tyler

I honestly could not continue watching this one. Of all the awful traumas and setbacks she had to endure, for some reason the sleepover “prank“ hit me in the deepest pit of my gut. Something about the casual cruelty of kids at that age (in middle school when you really become cognizant of, and jockeying for, social status) is just so sharply devastating. I’m an adult male so I never really had to experience the dynamics of tween girl cliques, but I do remember the sort of raw and emotional vulnerability, which at that point she definitely had a lot of. God I hope she’s okay

    1. Stefan

Indeed. I’m 33 and if I see a group of tweens coming towards me I will cross the street.

      1. Alexandra

        I’m 34 and absolutely same.

  12. Alyssa Wells

The dopesick scene/not being able to find a vein is terrifying but thank GOD they are showing it. Yes we get the part about nodding off and overdosing but they don’t show enough to educate people on withdrawals.

Anyone know where to get updates on intervention cast members?

  13. Pang

Her dad really seems like a piece of work. What an asshole. I feel so much for her.

    1. Mini

I totally agree. A real selfish asshole.

  14. Nivey

Ugh this episode was one of the most graphic! My heart breaks for Shandon, she was dealt such a shitty hand in life! I would love and pray to see her recover and live a healthy and happy life. She’s so so young and has her entire life ahead of her! I definitely don’t think the Dad deserves any Dad of the year awards but he was left alone to raise two small daughters. Which I’m sure was hard. As far as the episode goes he was a total enabler and looked totally lost as to what to do for her now, but you could see his pain. The older sister annoyed me most! How dare she not stick up for Shandon being bullied!? Awful. At least she admitted it and hopefully she can ask for forgiveness. The other sister admitted that Shandon was invisible to the family! Omg, terrible! Poor Shandon. I pray she rises above this all and finds her way. She deserves it. <3

    1. Ingrid

Her sister was to busy bouncing from girl to girl thinking of only herself because why wouldn’t she as an elderly sister stop the bullying of beautiful shandon even her sister was a jerk at the bbq noticing shandons arms and speaking out loud at the table about them you could see shandons eyes change you really could so that is a sign her sister was also a bully the dad was so into himself lieing to her about the mother just leaving him to raise them when that was not even true such a pos shandon left her treatment and continued to use she Jas not been on her Facebook since 2021 yet her sister has and mot one word ,mentioned about shandon one would think she would mention shandon or have pictures of her up with her yep another self centered family member

  15. Chrissy

Jesus, her dad… Is he for real?? He thanked her drug dealer for coming over. He acts like he has no idea how life threatening this is for his daughter. He’s playing dumb, acting as though he doesn’t quite understand. He’s creepy as hell.

    1. BJ

Shandon is one of the worst cases I have seen on this show. It is truly heartbreaking.
I was surprised to see that she left treatment and started using again.
I am surprised that this young woman is still alive. I wish her the absolute best and hope she will again go through rehab and this time be successful and live a happy, healthy, life.
      Bless you, Shandon.

  16. Gigi

This girl hurts my heart…she’s so beautiful but so uncomfortable in her skin. I truly hope she can find a way to love herself.

  17. Mr S

I watched the show but it ended half way through??? what happened? did she get clean ?? did the intervention work or did she NOPE the fu** out of there and go back to the fetty?? or is she on methadone now ??

    1. Ben

She went to treatment, completed detox but left after 19 days and relapsed. The family are sticking to their bottom lines.

  18. Alex

This one really hit me differently, and I’ve watched countless episodes of Intervention. After admitting to the part Shandon’s Sister played in her bullying, she continued to ostracize and humiliate her at the family BBQ about her arms and while she was in the bathroom. I think she really played up a lot of her interactions and how she behaved because she was on camera, and she tried to portray some sort of better than thou persona throughout. Maureen gets a lot of flack from Intervention fans but here she needs to get a great deal of credit for how she handled this one: I thought she hit the nail on the head in the pre-intervention when speaking with and about Shandon’s father.

  19. Susie

I liked Shandon, she seems like a kind and genuine person. I feel so bad about her past, so sad. I really hope she found her way back to treatment. Anyone have an update?

  20. Nancy

I could not stand the sister in this episode. She seems so fake and just a downright mean girl. I have no idea why Shandon was ever even bullied, she’s so beautiful now and when she was younger. I wasn’t a fan of her family. Best of luck Shandon

  21. Emmett Xavier Theodoran

This episode really brought emotions out of me in a way that few have others have had the power to do so..
For starters, the 5 gallon bucket full of us used sharps. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.
My heart breaks for this beautiful girl who has her whole entire life ahead of her.
As the episode progressed, I found myself and more and more disgusted with her father and way he failed her over and over again. I didn’t particularly like her sister either, but she did seem very remorseful for mistreating her sister growing up.

The part that broke my heart the most was the girls finding out that their mother did not abandon them at all the way they had been lead to believe. The mother had in fact fought for them but was awarded custody. Then on top of it, her mother passed away from cancer once she finally did get to live with her… just terribly sad especially for such a sweet person. I’m pretty sure I would have loved to have been friends with her.
I pray with all of my heart that whoever Shandon is right now that she’s doing doing better for herself.

    1. Charles Black

      Agreed, just heartbreaking

  22. Milina

is she doing okay? did she stay sober? the end of the episode didn’t say anything.

    1. Chance and Destiny

I’ve clicked on it twice and both times it redirected to a virus. I really hope that isn’t true. She was such a lost little girl. She deserved so much better

        Read here. https://www.reddit.com/r/InterventionTheTVShow/comments/xtlkmp/what_happened_to_shandon_s21/
I could open the link where it is written she passed away in September 2022. Also there are no more posts on her facebook.

  24. Laura

i asked a family member on fb and she is alive and sober and doing well.

  25. Kail

Some of these comments are very strange. Her sister seems “snobby?” Like… why? cause she didn’t want someone bringing drugs into her house or ruining their events with drugs? I’m pretty sure a normal well adjusted sibling of an addict wouldn’t like drugs. All of these confessionals are honest, vulnerable, and taken out of context. The tidbits we hear are probably only a small part of a larger point they were thinking.

    1. Kara Bishop

      I totally agree with you!!!!!

  26. Ingrid

Shandon passed away in September 2022 so sad she had a very hard life they way the sister commented on her arms at the family dinner like seriously u could see shandons eyes change after her sister Alana said that the dad like uh was he wearing a toupee omg but yes shandons passed away September 2022 rest easy shandon 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

    1. April S.

Can you please cite your source for her passing? Another commenter said they spoke to a family member in November and she was alive and well.

    2. Megan

Do you have a source for her death?

    3. kitty katt

According to the post that Laura made, she contacted a family member and was told she was alive and doing well.
