S17E1 Katherine C.

Season 17, Episode 1

Katherine C

Age: 28
Location:  Syracuse, New  York
Addiction:  Crack (primary)

What’s Memorable:  The well-meaning parents so profoundly and tragically enabling of their daughter’s addiction. They’re in it deep, repeatedly paying lip service to creating boundaries but never able to do it, right up until the last epilogue screen. My hope is that they get help for their own health and well-being and that it ends up helping Katherine too.

Official Synopsis: Katherine was a bright college student with dreams of becoming a journalist until she was abducted and brutally assaulted. Katherine swiftly spiraled, becoming dependent on a dangerous mix of drugs to mask the trauma. Her parents have already purchased a burial plot for her and are certain that it’s only a matter of time before they bury their only child.

Date Aired:  July 2017
Interventionist:
Ken

Just watched the episode and feel so heartbroken. I read the comments and it sounds like she is still in the throes of addiction. I’m not surprised to read that she’s allegedly mentally incapacitated, having somehow survived these past 9 years since the episode was released. Bah humbug, my heart hurts for her. I am in recovery and I saw so much of myself in her in the intervention episode. What has happened to her is truly tragic…

she recently got arrested in Jefferson county

Any updates on how Katherine is doing these days?

    1. Kim

She’s apparently in a group home in Colorado and is mentally incapacitated, her parents moved to Florida. So sad, she was such a sweet soul and had so much potential. I think of her story often

Thanks Kim, that’s so sad because she was so bright, I think about her often. I hope she is ok. I always wanted to write her a letter somehow, or even to her parents so they could get it to her.

Man I feel like I watched a different episode than everyone else. This girl just seemed madly in love with her disease, madly in love with her edgelord lifestyle, and madly in love with herself for leading it. I didn’t get the sweetness everyone else saw — everything felt very affected and fake for the cameras, to me. I wasn’t at all surprised to find out she knew she was on the show, nor am I surprised by what Sara posted here: she loves how famous it’s made her. I’m sure finding out her episode aired on Vice will make her day.
