Season 22, Episode 15 (Intervention Canada)
Nicholette
Age: 25
Location: London, Ontario, Canada
Addiction: Crack
Official Synopsis: The youngest of three siblings, Nicholette was a bright, creative child. Growing up, she developed a very close relationship with her father, despite the fact that he was a binge drinker who would disappear for days at a time. Nicholette’s mother kept the family functioning, but when she was diagnosed with cancer, she separated from Nicholette’s father to beat her illness. Nicholette started dating, partying and dabbling with drugs. Now 27, Nicholette’s addiction is out of control, and her family fears that without a successful intervention they will lose her to drugs forever.
What’s Memorable: The ‘psychosis’ diagnosis that was apparently 100% a result of the drugs and not a standalone mental illness. Wacky dad Bernie trying desperately to be her best friend and drinking buddy so that she’d feel comfortable telling him about her problems (and probably because he needed someone to be sick with too). I understand the impulse to pretend you’re ok with someone’s addiction so that they don’t shut you out, but man is that hella unhealthy. I was shocked in the end that Bernie refused treatment but actually did quit drinking that day – when does that ever happen on this show? So great to see Nicholette at treatment healthy and happy. She seems like a genuinely kind and lovely person, really hope things work out for her and she’s able to start really living again, without the belief that she’s a “lost cause” and mentally ill.
Interventionist: Maureen Brine
Date Aired: June 21 2021 (Aired as Intervention Canada Season 4 Episode 10, on Nov 10, 2018)
I’m really hoping all the Internet sleuths here can find some current info on Nicholette and Bernie. I hope she’s doing well; she seems like such a sweet girl with so much potential. And her Dad, goodness gracious…the whole show I kept thinking, “He’s acting like this is all a big joke,” even at the Intervention, snickering and laughing. I commend him on (successfully??) quitting drinking on his own; that’s tough to do.
I’m hoping so too- I can’t find anything yet.
Dizzy I thought it said Bernie did end up going to treatment?
Yeah you’re right now that I think about it. He went to a local outpatient treatment on his own, he just didn’t take them up what they offered him at the intervention. I guess that should count as going to treatment though.
I thought technically that doesn’t count as it wasn’t what was offered to him. I’m going by the qualifications for the “who didn’t go to treatment” section. Alissa is included in there even though she did attend a local gambling recovery outpatient program.
Well, that was…a strange one. The whole thing left me…weirdly dispassionate about the participants. When the father appeared at the intervention, I thought, “Are you KIDDING?” I guess, in a way, it had the desired effect of getting both of them into recovery, but isn’t that a pretty large risk to take, with a loose-cannon like the father? What if Nicholette had said, “If he’s not going, I’m not either.” One of the strangest INTERVENTION episodes in quite some time. I didn’t much care for the interventionist, either.
There is an episode similar to this one about the dad being an alcoholic and his daughter being the addict. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s the one under Tiffany, the heroin addict.
I think part of the dispassion you perceived was probably largely due to the nature of Nicholette’s addiction…it’s hard to connect with someone who is disconnected from reality. And even when he was sober her father really CHOSE to be disconnected from reality so there wasn’t a lot to relate to until the end.
She looks good!!
I think she’s clean.

I wonder if that’s her child.
I hope she’s still OK! The profile seems to be gone now.
weird episode. You don’t have psychosis, you aren’t full of psychosis. You are psychotic which simply means delusional. These people were annoying.
After suffering a psychotic break or two, I can vouch that “full of psychosis” is a bang-on description.
I checked Nicholette’s Facebook and it certainly looks like she is clean – although you can never tell for sure by pictures. I hope she is clean because I liked her. The one I found irritating was the Father. I couldn’t figure him out. Did he really think it was in Nicholette’s best interest to drink with her? Was he just a drunk? Was he trying to be a Dad to her? Was he just a moron? I couldn’t tell what he was all about or trying to do.
Nicholette’s father was an infant…I don’t know how else to put it.
I could never see what his girlfriend saw in him. He must have been a completely different person when he was sober…?
There is something very suspect about Bernie and his behavior towards his daughter.
I came here to see if anyone felt the same. Their relationship came across as so cringe. It was as if he was just some old dude trying to woo a younger woman. And she acted like he was an actual sugar daddy, not her father. I have never been so creeped out by an episode.
I just thought he seemed extremely immature.
The moment where he kissed her goodbye on the lips, I thought for sure his girlfriend was about to say something. A sentence or two later she mentioned something about “boundaries” but that was it.
Totally agree. When he kissed his grown daughter on the lips, and wanting to stay in the trailer Tiger saying “I’m in trouble” after talking to his girlfriend— my creepster radar went on high alert.
I wonder what happened during those two weeks she went missing with those 10 guys in high school. You don’t just go to a party and then go missing for a week? And the sister to just pull up next to her and ask her where she’s been? Idk, it felt like so blown over. I would’ve dragged her into my vehicle if she was my sister haha. So strange. And then to start hearing voices after that, and just got so much worse, really makes you wonder what happened
Unfortunately, it’s likely she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by all those men. I wish they hadn’t just skipped over that part. There needed to be more of dive into what happened to her that made her completely change. I don’t know why they just skipped over that for the most part.
Reminds me of Tiffany’s story and how she was diagnosed in childhood with schizophrenia and then it turned out that it was just psychosis from a result of her childhood sexual abuse.
EXACTLY. I thought the same thing.
The best thing she can do is stay far away from her hometown area. It’s one of the worst spots in the province for drugs and addicts. She could easily relapse in such an environment.
I was so glad to see that she stayed away from her hometown. There’s been a weird trend in some of these more recent episodes where the previous strong emphasis on being away from triggering surroundings is just…gone? Is it just me that’s noticed that?
In any case, Nicholette seemed like an absolute sweetheart and I hope that she’s still clean and healthy.
That Anne lady must have had serious mental and emotional issues to be dating Bernie. I would never as an adult with a fully formed frontal lobe walk into that family situation and stick around. Why is she comfortable living in his house with not only him, a lifetime alcoholic, but also his addicted daughter who he’s creep with?
She looks good!!

She looks freaking amazing! All glowy and healthy!! And seems to have a happy little boy.
I took another look at Nicholette’s episode yesterday. She struck me as a very innocent young girl. You could tell she was really proud of herself after she completed treatment. I hope she stuck with it. Her Dad – well, when I first saw this episode a couple of years ago, I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do. With this viewing I came to a different conclusion – he simply isn’t all that bright. In other words, he wasn’t trying to do anything. To him, drinking with his daughter was perfectly fine. Very immature guy. Anyway, he ended up going to treatment for his drinking. I would be very surprised if he stayed sober.
I was waiting for that spaceship fire cover to fall on Bernie’s drunk ass. I don’t think he was kiddie fiddler re his daughter, he was the deadly combo of immature, dumb, drunk. Hopefully solved the latter one, not much he can do re first two.
