Buy Me a Coffee

Season 2, Episode 8

Antwahn

Age: 39
Location: Los Angeles, California
Addiction: Crack
What’s memorable: Man, Antwahn has just about every possible addiction trigger out there. He had a really rough life. Also he seems like a super decent guy (other than doing things like stealing his daughter’s birthday presents to buy crack with) and you really root for him to get his shit together.

Official synopsis: Antwahn played professional basketball for the Los Angeles Clippers and in Europe for over a decade, but when a serious knee injury ended his career he began to binge on crack-cocaine and ended up on skid row.

Original Air Date: March 2006
Interventionist: Ken

It was not hard to see that this guy was a good person. i was really rooting for him. his kids loved him. i really hope he stayed clean.

Antwahn, to me, is one of the most likeable, sympathetic “Intervention” subjects in the history of the show (to date). I was already tearing-up, when he described waiting by the door for his mother, who committed suicide when he was very young. And to mix that with a violently abusive father, who was sort of portrayed as the reason the mother killed herself. My god, what a weight for a little boy to carry. How could he NOT be scarred…and scared…and lost? I pray he has found the right road and is reunited with his beautiful wife and daughters. I can see why his wife couldn’t completely cut him loose–he has such a beautiful inner spirit. It’s just unfair that he was dealt an absolutely lousy hand in the birth lottery. Antwahn, I hope you’ve found some peace.

Watching Antwahn, he is such a nice, likeable, intelligent man. He graduated from High School with honors in spite of his upbringing. Of all the interventions, this one really got me. I so hope he finds himself. Wherever you are Antwahn, think of your children. My son died less than a month after his 37th birthday. Jeremie; 10/05/77-11/10/14. Pain pills/xanax. He left behind his wife, his best friend; his brother, myself and his day. And his son who was 16 years old and at school only to come home and find out his father had died during the night. Addiction is a selfish disease. Everyone who loves you are affected. Godspeed Antwahn

I just saw him yesterday (1/23/2016) in New Orleans near bourbon street. He did not look like he was doing any better than he was on the show. Sad story…I immediately recognized his face but could not figure out who he was. After about 15 seconds, I figured it out and confirmed with a quick google search. Pray for this guy, it’s been 9 years since the intervention episode.

  4. Serenity

Antwahn was BY FAR the saddest intervention I’ve seen so far… He was clearly a sweetheart with a heart of gold. That plus money and drugs equals a bottom faster and farther than any other personality. The love his daughters gave so freely, the mind games he played with his (now ex) wife, the nephew who also lost a role model…. And the guilt on his face… Man, drugs are the scariest “recreation” I’ve ever seen! And his recent Facebook post seem to show he relies on flashing money to find companionship… Still a scared little boy waiting for love to come back home.. I say a prayer for you every night Antwahn, please don’t let the pain you’ve experienced win, continue to fight for the life you deserve!!!

I seem to always skip over this episode when I’m watching my collection and I don’t know why! It’s such a great episode. Just turned it on tonight and I can’t help but to feel like his wife gave up on him to soon. I feel like he really needed her.

      Hi Kristy,
Do you know where I can find a link or where you got your copy? I’d really like to show this to some students and atheletes.

      Thanks
      SB

Anyone know of a link where I can find his episode? I’d like to show it to my class and players. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about New Orleans and Bourbon Street, since everything on Google suggests that Antwahn is still in Cali. Here’s a news article from June where he was a witness to a (tragically fatal) plane accident in Hawthorne, CA:

    http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-plane-crash-20160610-snap-story.html

Unfortunately, it also appears he was arrested on October 4, 2016, unclear for what:

Man i just saw this episode on YT…Ramoin is an angel for all the uploads! This was an amazing episode and so sad. This whole episode was kinda sad…actually they’re mostly all sad…and these episodes look so OLD! It’s crazy because I remember watching some of these when they came out and now i feel old!

  9. Siouxsie

Ramoins channel also has the follow up episode with antwahn and Rachel (heroin). It’s obviously old, but still interesting to watch.

  10. Diane

Antwahn was a very sympathetic character. What a sad life he has had. His little girls love him so much, it breaks your heart. I hope he’s doing well.
