I know Jose, who in this episode helps Troy moving all his stuff back to his mother’s place. Troy relapsed several times over the years but the last time I asked him Jose told me that he had lost all track of Troy. So Troy’s status on the wikipedia page saying that he has been sober since 2007 is definitely not up-to-date.

That’s so sad. When I see people like him that are lost and broken, I really wish I could just hug them and tell them it will be alright. Any updates on him would be much appreciated.

This episode hits very close to home for me because I was raised in the Mormon church and my little brother is a successful ballroom dancer who is a senior in high school and my parents are pushing him to go to BYU even though he wants to live by the ocean. I’m 99% sure is closeted gay. I’ve thought he was gay for as long as I can remember, since he was about 3 or 4. I have caught him flirting with his best friend when he doesn’t know I can see and they go to the movies together and stuff and I wonder if they’re secretly dating. My parents, especially my mom, are very naive and refuse to accept things outside their Mormon worldview. I am very worried for him because if he is gay I want him to know there is nothing wrong with him and I will always love him no matter what his sexual orientation is. My family is very broken and 4 of 6 kids have mental health and/or addiction problems, including myself. I am worried that my little brother could be #5. I don’t know how to go about offering support without offending or hurting him. I just want him to know he is loved and accepted by me no matter what and I will always be there for him. I don’t want him to go into a downward spiral. I love him and can’t watch my family fall apart even more.

    1. KELLY MORGAN I'LL BE YOUR FRIEND FOREVER

Dearest Troy, As soon as I saw the episode Intervention that was aired on 12-15-2015…and I saw that PRECIOUS BABY FACE OF YOURS,MY HEART MELTED!!!
I understand exactly how you feel sweetie,my Uncle,(whom we were very close) was also gay & his life was a living HELL! Especially because of my Gpa,his Dad! I WANTED TO CLIMB INSIDE MY TV & JUST HOLD YOU AND TELL YOU I’M HERE FOR YOU FOREVER NO MATTER WHAT…
I WOULD & WILL NEVER,EVER LET YOU DOWN!!! THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT YOU TROY THAT DREW ME TO YOU INSTANTLY,LIKE I’VE KNOWN YOU FOREVER!!! LET’S PLEASE KEEP IN TOUCH,
YOU NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT “JUDGMENT” FROM ME WHAT SO EVER…NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS…I PROMISE YOU THAT ON MY LIFE TROY!!!

      1. Renee

There’s something very disturbing this post, all caps aside. There’s a big difference between offering support and obsessively making promises with absolute terms like “you never have to worry”, “never in a million years”, I promise you that on my life” to anyone, let alone a stranger – a man who knows he has syphilis yet doesn’t use condoms and is a master of manipulating others. Please be careful who you pledge undying affections to – predators love and look for this kind of behavior.

What about HPV, HIV, and HEP A-Z? Such a risky lifestyle.

  5. Benjamin

    Dear Troy,

First of all, I hope this finds you well. Secondly, and more importantly (I suppose), I hope you read this. I, too, am a survivor of the “pnp” fad (which, of course, is still ongoing), and your story effected me more than any other “Intervention” story, because I identified; Identify with you. During the same time frame of years, it seems you and I were both experiencing the exact same emotional, transitional, exploitative and life-changing events, concurrently. I am a disabled veteran of two deployments to Iraq. When I came back, I began to indulge. Besides being gay, and in the military when ‘don’t ask; don’t tell’ was still the constraints by which I served my country. My mother died when I was 22, and my father was absent. And my family hated the ‘gays’ with vitriol.
I get it. I understand. You are not alone. You’re episode always remained in the forefront of my mind.
I am glad you shared your story. Now I’ve shared mine.
    Always

  6. Andy

Can you post a link to his FB?

  7. Sue Ellen Hegstrom

What is bareback, and what is pnp?

    1. Holly Hayes

Bareback is when you have unprotected sex (i.e. not using a condom), which is obviously particularly dangerous if you’re a gay man with HIV.

PNP = party n play, aka using drugs and having sex together.

  8. Candace

I know it’s hard for some to relate to addiction and of course the risky lifestyle but this guy was gone long before the intervention. My heart hurt so bad for him and his family. It was hard watching that episode.

  9. maya

I came here looking for an update on Troy. I’ve watched a lot of intervention but he just got to me. I truly hope in the years since he has found some help.

  10. Aaron

What happened to Jared’s comment? It was extremely specific telling us about Troy’s alleged conspiracy to have his boss killed at the census bureau, living in AIDS housing and still using and which you can still read on the wayback machine? Did Troy intervene to have one of the comments to his intervention be removed? Did Jared regret his comment? I’m waiting for an explanation with bated breath…

  11. Isabelle

Any updates on Troy? Is he still alive?

  12. Wes B.

    Cause of death: heroin overdose

    1. Katie

Where did you read that at?

  13. Jayla

Anyone have an update or last name for troy?

    1. Elizabeth

That is rude and uncalled for…

  14. April S.

You commented in April “Cause of death: heroin overdose,” but now state he allegedly still shoots up meth. What’s the truth, or do you even know?

  15. Ami

I think this Wes fool needs to be blocked from this site for his gross comments.

    1. Dizzy

      Done. Sorry about that.

  16. Ingrid

I also have been looking for updates on troy sure he had a bad meth addiction but knowing he had syphilis and still having u protected sex with that many men wasn’t right then he tested positive for HIV and he had even mentioned he hadn’t been tested but was worried and still had sex with several men even saying he had sex with 20 men in one night I wonder how many men contracted both syphilis and HIV from troy if he is still alive I hope and pray he contacted some of those men and told them

I’ve known Troy since we were kids. We grew up together. I don’t have specifics on how he’s doing now, I haven’t seen him in years, but whoever said he died is lying. He’s still alive. I will say that the Troy I grew up with was an incredibly intelligent, kind person, and it hurts my heart to see that he has had such a difficult adulthood. He’s a good person who was dealt a shitty hand and has struggled to deal with it.
