Benny is one of my favorite characters on Intervention. I was psyched to see his followup and that he’s doing great. He’s so enthusiastic and full of energy. I’d love to meet him someday.

When I first saw Benny’s episode it didn’t take me long to conclude that he has a narcissistic personality disorder. Whenever an addict has a narcissistic or antisocial personality disorder on top of the addiction, it makes the addiction very difficult if not impossible to treat. Narcissists and sociopaths think they’re perfect, that everything they do is just splendid, and that whenever they screw up or misbehave it’s everyone else’s fault but their own. Therefore, it’s very difficult to convince them that they have a problem and to go to treatment.

Benny, Gabe the gambler, Nick the junkie who seduced his drug counselor, Andrew the bulimic ROTC kid, Kelly the homeless alcoholic and Heidi the compulsive shopper fall into this category.

Well Benny seemed to be doing great in his followup and I really liked him regardless of what your assessment of him is. Not saying you are wrong-just that I bet Benny is a success story.

    2. Xlio

Heidi? Really? I didn’t see that I just saw an insecure and hurt girl trying to fill a void. All because she is superficial or materialistic doesn’t necessarily mean she is a narcissist.

  3. Jordy

Insolent 30 yr old man child. Glad he got treatment, and was kinda surprised he went tbh.

      *38 at the episode airing

Any new update on Benny? I just watched his episode today. Rod killed it at this intervention. I thought he did an excellent job in getting Benny to go to detox/rehab.

  5. Lizard

What does everyone think about Rob’s style of interviewing the family one-on-one? I think it’s interesting, confronting each member individually. However, I wonder if it lacks the accountability from confronting the individual in front of the other family members? Anyone have any thoughts on this? This is the first time I’ve seen a “Rob Intervention”. He seems like a good Interventionist. I like how he tells the addict directly “Hi, I’m Rob and I am an interventionist”

  6. Stefan

Does anyone have updates on Benny? Or at least the daughter, and how she is, how she feels about the situation of her birth? He had so many flaws sure, but he’s a human being with an experience that is hard to understand. In some ways I relate to him, in most I don’t, but I see that he’s a man with very real emotions and problems.
Would love to see where this journey took him.
