S4E21 Jenny

Season 5, Episode 12

Jenny

Age: 32
Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
Addiction:  Heroin, Meth

(Guest Post by Stefan) What’s Memorable: This episode illustrated the concept of Patriarchal Blessing in the Mormon Church, which was something I was unfamiliar with. It was a breath of fresh air to have such a religious family be as supportive/understanding of an addicted family member as Jenny’s was (it’s something I feel like isn’t so common on this show). Also, her shooting up and nodding off while giving a haircut was disturbing.

Official Synopsis:  Jenny, 32, is a talented hairstylist from a close-knit Mormon family. When a diagnosis of endometriosis crushes her dreams of having a family, she turns to prescription drugs. Her addiction quickly escalates to IV heroin and meth use.

Date Aired: September 2008
Interventionist: Candy

If I’m not mistaken, Jenny was from Twin Falls, Idaho, not Utah.

    1. Stefan

I don’t remember reading a location, but I assumed it was Utah due to it being paired with Mike (which also took place in Utah) and her family being Mormons.

      1. Janelle

Stefan, you know what they say happens when you ASS U ME. Not all Mormons live in Utah, and not everyone in Utah is Mormon you know 🙂 Utah is only about 70% LDS (Mormon), and Salt Lake City proper is below 30%. The state is quite diverse.

      2. Janelle

Salt Lake City also has a sizable LGBTQ community and is considered one of the more LGBTQ-friendly large cities in the USA.

    2. Dizzy

      Corrected

    3. Sue Ellen Hegstrom

There’s a high Mormon population there as well.

    4. Sadie

Jenny is actually from Clinton, Utah. I am her youngest cousin.

      1. Stefan

Thanks for the correction. How’s she doing if you don’t mind me asking?

  2. Andy

Wow I’ve never heard any references or anyone talk about this episode before. That’s cool we found it.

    1. Stefan

This episode has been missing in all official capacities at least since 2011 (when Dizzy started this site), although it was available on the A&E website for a time in 2016 (along with Betsy, another longtime missing episode). Here it is if anyone wants to watch it (paired with Mike):

      1. Stefan

For whatever reason A&E still has the intro clip from the episode on their site:

      2. Sue Ellen Hegstrom

Someone with the user name Ramoin has been bringing lots of Intervention episodes back, including this one. Gotta say, I’m a frequent flyer.

  3. Stefan

Dizzy, it you could please change the date aired from March 2005 to September 2008 that would be great. Thanks!

    1. Dizzy

Oops, must’ve pasted it over from Vanessa and not changed that part. Fixed.

  4. Andy

How’s her kid? I heard she had a baby after the show? Is she doing okay too?

  5. Holly

I was wondering for the longest time why Jenny’s episode wasn’t on here. I’ve been wondering about her for the longest time. Any updates on her? I know she got pregnant not long after treatment….

  6. April

Hey there. Maybe I missed something, but ya Dizzy ok?

  7. Stefan

Jenny’s (shared with Mike) episode is on Youtube! I hope this means the user has and will upload the Betsy episode soon, as it’s been missing for several years as well. Dizzy, feel free to watch and switch out my comments for your own if you want:

Ramoin is posting many episodes. Check out his area on YouTube.

The episode was in Utah. I’m from southern Idaho and the landscape is inaccurate. If you don’t believe me watch the episode a relative literally says about Jenny “there is a lot of pressure to do those things in Utah” referring to having a family and kids. Utah episode.

  9. Andy

I just watched her episode today. I remember when she had to stop doing her friends hair and the friend goes “it’s so hard to find someone who can cut hair.” Anyways I hope she’s doing well. Any updates on her or her kid?

Oh and Dizzy this episode was filmed in Utah. At the beginning her dad mentions that it wasn’t easy living in Utah because of the expectations.

  10. Wil

Idaho back then had that kind of a drug problem? Montana is all stimulant abuse, they hardly have any opiates. Surprised to hear she was in Twin Falls, Idaho not somewhere near the Salt Lake area of Utah, where I know cartels have a HUGE foothold.

    1. Andy

Her location is wrong. Her dad mentioned “it wasn’t easy for her growing up in Utah.” She was in Utah like Mike.

  11. Stefan

You can watch her episode (along with Mike) on Dailymotion:

Stefan, you are amazing! Thank you so much! My desire to find lost episodes is worthy of its own intervention episode (half kidding 😂)

      1. Stefan

Lol you’re welcome. I wish Betsy’s episode would show up again.

      2. Caprisha Ragas

        THANK YOU SO MUCH

  12. Xlio

Her disease was, in my opinion, one of the most progressive and of such severe exponential growth addictions on record.

Six months. Already to that level. It affects everyone differently. I do not want to bring religion/patriarchal values into this, as I realize it’s a hot button issue, but it’s such a shame what an impact her inability to have children had on her. And what a fucked up ‘blessing’. I truly believe religion is at the core of many issues in this world but we’ll leave it at that…

She has already made her peace w being “useless” because she cannot breed. That is so sad. I do give her credit for pursuing the creative outlet that is hairstyling.

    1. Stefan

I agree with everything you say and more. Mormonism especially is quite dangerous in this regard as it pressures its members to be perfect, or at least put on that appearance.

  13. Tadpole

I am fairly certain that Jenny is from Utah, not Idaho…
